On February 7th, 2008, the Newfoundland & Labrador Employers’ Council recognized Newfoundland & Labrador Credit Union and P.F. Collins as the 2007 Employer of Distinction recipients. Other progressive employers that were in contention for this award included Browning Harvey Ltd., C-CORE, Hospitality Newfoundland & Labrador, St. John’s Transportation Commission (Metrobus), Terra Nova Shoes, and The Telegram.
The Employer of Distinction Award recognizes employers who go above and beyond the norm when it comes to all elements of the employment relationship including:

- Presence in the Community
- Stakeholder Awareness
- Compensation & Advancement

Speaking on the recipients, Richard Alexander, Executive Director of Council commented, “With a tight labour market, it is becoming increasingly difficult to attract and retain workers. All of today’s short-listed organizations have been extremely proactive in making their workplaces great places to work, and because of this, have some of the best and brightest workers on staff in their organizations.”
The independent judging panel for this year’s award including Dr. Gary Gorman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ms. Heather Modlin of St. Francis Foundation, and Mr. Vince Withers, Former Businessman and Founding Chair of the Employers’ Council.
